WEDNESDAY~ APRIL 15, 1992 <br /> <br />In response to a question by Councilman Williams, Mr. Lamm stated that <br />the requested increase in legal services was due to costs associated <br />with due process hearings. it Was ~Oted that successfully avoiding <br />residential placement of st~ts t~r~ugh due process hearings can <br />potentially save the lSch~ol D~i~!Sion ~!~arge amount of money <br /> <br />In response'~TtO a ~tiom~by C~]ncilman Oakes Mr. La~ stated that the <br />School B~et did not contai~ funding for an additional assessment <br />needed to fund the School ~ ~)ivis ion ' s costs associated with the <br />disparity in educational fund~hg lawsuit <br /> <br />In response to a question by Ce~uncilman Adams, Mr. Lamm stated that the <br /> <br />increase in the budget re!~.~est for substitute teachers was an <br />adjustment based on the Sch~. Division's experience of expenditures <br />for this item. <br /> <br />In response to a question by ~uncilman Adams, Mr. Lammstated that the <br />budgeted reduction in dropo~ prevention expense was a result of a <br />reduction in revenue from t~State for this item. <br /> <br />In response to a question byCouncilman Williams, Mr. Ralph Nelson, <br />Principal of Martinsville Hi,~i~, stated that 160-165 students were in <br />the Senior Class. <br /> <br />Mayor McClain noted that th~ cost of educating special education <br />students was more than double '~e cost of educating regular education <br />students and that, if the Sch~?(:~.s were not mandated to provide these <br />services, significantly more~ ~M~.V would be available for general <br />education purposes. ~ <br /> <br /> <br />
