TUESDAY, APRIL 14, 1992 <br />included in the proposal. Ms. Conrad stated that the Department had <br />not received information from the State regarding the funding which the <br />Department will receive. Several members of Council noted that no <br />action could be taken on the Department's budget until that information <br />was received. <br /> <br />Council reviewed the budget request of the Blue Ridge Regional Library <br />and the New Readers Program. Mr. George Gautsch, Chairman of the <br />Library's Board of Directors, was present to explain the budget request <br />for the Library. Mr. Gautsch stated that the Library was requesting a <br />$11,342 increase in local funding to pay for expenses for a security <br />guard and to fund a 3% pay increase for Library employees. The City <br />Manager's budget proposal included no increase in local funding for the <br />Library. Ms. Betty Wooldridge, Library Director, and Mr. Bill <br />Peterson, Coordinator of the New Readers Program, were present to <br />explain the budget request for that program. It was noted that the <br />Program is requesting a $363 increase in local funding to pay for a 3% <br />salary increase for the Coordinator. The City Manager's budget <br />proposal did not include this increase. <br /> <br />Council considered the budget request of the Martinsville-Henry County <br />Economic Development Corporation. Mr. Joseph Gero, Executive Director <br />of the EDC, was present to explain the budget request. It was noted <br />that the EDC was requesting an increase of $15,000 in local funding to <br />pay for the costs associated with adding a staff position to the EDC <br />Office.
