TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 1992 <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council adopted, on <br /> <br />second reading, the following Ordinance No. 92-2 amending the City's <br /> <br />Business, Professional and Occupational License Tax Ordinance by adding <br /> <br />Section 17 to Article I which would require that proof be given that <br /> <br />all delinquent taxes have been paid prior to issuance of a business <br /> <br />license by the Commissioner of the Revenue: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular session assembled February 25, 1992, <br />that it does hereby amend the Business, Professional, and <br />Occupational License Tax Ordinance by adding Section 17 to <br />Article I, as follows: <br /> <br />17. <br /> <br />PAYMENT OF DELINQUENT TAXES. No business license shall <br />be issued until the applicant has produced satisfactory <br />evidence that all delinquent business license, business <br />personal property, meals, transient occupancy and admis- <br />sions taxes owed to the City have been paid which have <br />been properly assessed against the applicant by the <br />City. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council approved for <br />submittal an Application for a Loan from the Literary Fund of Virginia <br />for $248,050 by the School Board for Phase II-B for the removal of <br />asbestos at Albert Harris School. Mr. Harold Lamm, Superintendent of <br />City Schools, explained that this application needed to be filed at <br />this time so the actual work could be done during the summer months. <br />He noted that there would be one more application like this for Albert <br />Harris School. Mr. Lamm stated that the $248,050 was an high estimate <br />of the cost to ensure that enough money would be available for the <br />project. When the bids are received for the work, then a revised <br />figure will be submitted to the State, which should be less than this <br />projection. <br /> <br /> <br />
