TUESDAY, JUNE 8o 1993 <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that the tax rate for said <br />fiscal year shall be, for each one hundred dollars of assessed <br />valuation, as follows: <br /> <br />Real Estate <br />Personal Property <br />Machinery and Tools <br /> <br />$0.84 <br />$2.25 <br />$1.85 <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that this Ordinance shall be in <br />force on and after July 1, 1993. <br /> <br />Council heard a presentation fromApril Gill, President of Martinsville <br />High School Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) Chapter and <br />Martinsville High School representative on the Drug Task Force <br />regarding her attendance at the "REACH" anti-substance abuse conference <br />held in Roanoke on March 26, 1993. Councilman Oakes asked Ms. Gill to <br />suggest to the incoming president of SADD that a similar conference be <br /> <br />organized in Martinsville-Henry County. Several members of Council <br />commended Ms. Gill on her presentation. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council adopted the <br />following Resolution: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia in regular <br />session assembled January 12, 1993 authorized the Mayor to execute a <br />letter addressed to R. J. Frye, Chairman, Henry County Board of <br />Supervisors; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, said letter offered to provide a five-acre site bounded by <br />Moss, Church, Market and Fayette Streets, demolish existing buildings, <br />provide a "clean" site ready for Courthouse construction, and provide <br />City utility connections as deemed appropriate by the County's <br />architect, at a cost not to exceed $1 million if the voters of Henry <br />County by referendum chose to construct the new Henry County Courthouse <br />facility in the City of Martinsville; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, by letter dated May 25, 1993 from Robert P. Lawler, Jr., Henry <br />County Administrator, to Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., Martinsville City <br />Manager, Mr. Lawler stated the Henry County Attorney required a <br />"binding agreement" be prepared relating to the official action of <br />Council on this matter taken January 12, 1993; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Henry County Attorney further requested that the agreement <br />be filed with the Clerk of the Henry County Circuit Court; now, <br />therefore, <br /> <br /> <br />
