TUESDAY, JANUARY 26, 1993 <br />addressed Council: (1) W. H. Yeaman, 1513 Sam Lions Trail, read a <br />prepared statement in which he urged Council to (a) deny the Special <br />Use Permit request, (b) apologize to the residents of Park Street, and <br />(c) "launch a comprehensive and independent investigation into not only <br />this matter but also in other matters, and report thereon fully to the <br />citizens"; (2) Sharla Raines, 125 Park Street~ voiced support for <br />granting the Special Use Permit request and stated that the <br />alternatives to not granting the request would involve additional <br />expense to either the taxpayers or gas company customers; (3) Steven <br />Raines, 125 Park Street, also said that he had no objection to the <br />Special Use Permit being granted as long as the substation is properly <br />maintained; (4) Ralph Hunt, 200 Park Street, spoke in opposition to the <br />Special Use Permit, stating that the City was divided into "haves" and <br />"have nots", citing the recent Special Use Permit request in order to <br />relocate a gas regulator substation located on MulberryRoad, which was <br />denied; (5) Timothy Ratcliff, 214 Park Street, voiced concern over the <br />possible accessibility of the regulator substation site by children; <br />(6) Jerry Adams, 207 Park Street, spoke in opposition to the request; <br />(7) Martha White Beam, 225 Park Street, took no position on the <br />request, but cited traffic problems on Park Street; and (8) Thelma <br />Pinkard, 208 Park Street, spoke in opposition to the request, reviewed <br />traffic problems on Park Street, and voiced support for two street <br />projects: one which would widen Park Street and one which would <br />involve the construction of a new road to serve Sara Lee Corporation's <br />Roy Street Plant. There being no other comments from persons present, <br />Vice-Mayor Adams declared the public hearing closed. Councilman <br />Williams said that he had spoken to at least three-fourths of the <br />residents of Park Street, and of that number, only three persons <br />expressed opposition to the substation.
