TUESDAY, JANUARY 26, 1993 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Vice-Mayor George B. Adams, Jr. presiding, <br />was held Tuesday, January 26, 1993 in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br />beginning at 7:30 P.Mo The following members of Council were present: <br />George B. Adams, Jr., Vice-Mayor; Steve M. Draper; L. D. Oakes; and <br />Clyde L. Williams. Absent was Mayor Allan McClain, who was away from <br />the City° <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Vice-Mayor Adams' cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its January 12, 1993 <br />meeting as circulated. <br /> <br />Under Business from the Floor, the following individuals appeared: (1) <br />Betsy Ashbrook, Nursing Instructor at Patrick Henry Community College, <br />announced that Martinsville and Henry County had been chosen as one of <br />twelve sites in the United States to receive funding for a community- <br />based health care project from the Kellogg Foundation; (2) Bob Pinkard, <br />208 Park Street, stating that a member of Council had asked the <br />citizens to show respect when addressing the governing body, requested <br />the same consideration be given to citizens who come to Council <br />meetings; and (3) Estelle Gilbert, 330 Greyson Street, asked Council to <br />consider adoption of an ordinance which would control cats. Council <br />asked City Manager Earl B. Reynolds, Jro to review this matter. <br /> <br />Council conducted a public hearing on a request from Southwestern <br />Virginia Gas Company for a Special Use Permit under Section VIII, <br />Paragraph G.1. of'the Zoning Ordinance for a natural gas regulator <br />substation on Lot 1R located on the northeast side of Park Street and <br />the northwest side of Cross Street.
