TUESDAY, MARCH 8, 1994 <br />to respond to incidents requiring emergency medical care and fire <br />protection; (4) analyze and improve existing and planned communication <br />systems designed to support public safety and all other City agencies; <br />(5) expand the existing fire prevention program to consistently meet <br />the Code of Virginia standards, reduce fire incidents, and improve <br />customer responsiveness; (6) develop a coordinated volunteer <br />recruitment, retention, and recognition program for all three agencies; <br />and (7) implement a public communications program for citizens and <br />industry to provide education in and promotion of the emergency <br />services available to the Martinsville community. In response to a <br />question by Vice-Mayor Adams, Mr. Reynolds noted that a committee would <br />oversee implementation of the Plan. All members of Council expressed <br />appreciation to those who worked to develop the Plan. <br /> <br />Council formally recognized the members of the Planning Team which <br />developed the Public Safety Strategic Plan as follows: Jerry W. Brock, <br />Fire Department; Tommy J. Slaughter, Police Department; Michael Weeks, <br />M-HC Rescue Squad; Gerald D. Campbell, M-HC Rescue Squad; Eddie <br />Cassady, Police Department; Kenneth S. Draper, Fire Department; James <br />Haislip, M-HC Rescue Squad; Robert E. Hopkins, Fire Department; Tim <br />Ingram, Police Department; Joey Phillips, M-HC Rescue Squad; Virginia <br />Phillips, M-HC Rescue Squad; Leon Reed, Fire Department; and Scotty <br />Witherow, Police Department. Council also recognized Community <br />Resource Committee members as follows: Laura Hopkins, Sara Lee Corp.; <br />Ronnie Stone, Stone Ambulance; Rhonda Howell, Memorial Hospital of M- <br />HC; Billie Moore, Tultex; John Potter, DuPont Corp.; Pete Pearman, <br />DuPont Corp.; and Wayne Reedy, New River Police Academy. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council approved an <br /> <br /> <br />
