Patrick County: <br /> <br />Priority Projects <br />1) Expedite the planned construction of the four lane improvement of U.S. 58 from R.J. Reynolds - <br /> Patrick County Memorial Hospital east of the Town of Stuart corporate limits to Spencer Airport <br /> in Henry County. <br />2) Complete project design and right-of-way acquisition necessary to initiate construction of the <br /> U.S. 58 Bypass around the Town of Stuart. The bypass project has been and remains the top <br /> primary transportation priority designated by the Board of Supervisors. <br />3) Complete project design and allocate funding necessary to construct the four lane improvement <br /> of U.S. 58 from west of the proposed Stuart Bypass to 1-77 st Hillsville. <br />4) Expedite the planned day-lighting of curve and construction of a turning lane at the intersection <br /> of Routes 8 and 57'. <br />5) Fund, design, and construct a connector road from the proposed U.S. 58 Bypass at the <br /> intersection of Johnson Street in the Town of Stuart to route 8 South. <br /> <br />Other Primary Highway Needs <br />1) Revise the Stuart Area Transportation Study: Year 2005 TransportaUon Plan, prepared by VDOT <br /> in 1988. <br />2) Increase the width of Routes 8 and 103 south of the Town of Stuart to twenty-four (2) feet to <br /> accommodate commercial truck traffic. <br />3) Improve Route 8 between Stuart and Royd (on basis of a critical safety concern, immediate <br /> emphasis is requested for the installation of guardrail on "Floyd Mountain" between Route 605 <br /> and the Patrick and Royd County line). <br />4) Construct turning lanes, improve sight distance, and generally upgrade Route 8 south of the <br /> Town of Stuart corporate limits to State Route 652 to safely accommodate the current high traffic <br /> volume on this secUon of road. <br />5) Construct the proposed 1-73 project following the existing U.S. 220 corridor west of the City of <br /> Martinsvilla, through Henry County to the North Carolina state line. <br /> <br />Pittsylvania County: <br /> <br />1) <br /> <br />2) <br />3) <br /> <br />4) <br /> <br />S) <br /> <br />S) <br /> <br />S) <br /> <br />9) <br /> <br />10) <br /> <br /> 11) <br /> <br />Construction of the southwest connector !ink (East-West bypass) between Route 29 South of <br />Danviile to Route 58 West of Danville, a major project among the list of U.S. Route 58 <br />Improvement Program projects. <br />Escalate completion of U.S. Route 58 project. <br />Construct U.S. Route 58 widened to uniform 24 feet pavement width for each of the dual lane <br />sections through Danville and Pittsylvania County, with limited access designation for as much <br />of its length as possible. <br />Support for continued study of U.S. Route 58 East from intersection with U.S. 29 out to <br />intersection with Route 62. <br />Funding and construction of Route 41 four-lane improvement project from Danvilla corporate <br />limits to ~e Route 719 intersection at ML Herman Church, and subsequently out to Route 863. <br />Support for completion of Frsnldin Tumpike improvements in the City of Danville and a <br />connector from North Main Street, Danvilla, to U.S. 29. <br />Support for Deign and Construction of Route 360 improvements. <br />Coordinate with the State of North Carolina to achieve redesignadon of Route 29 from Danville to <br />Interstate 40/85 in Greensboro, N.C. as Interstate 785. <br />Upgrade U.S. route 29 to a four-lane highway facility, with limited access dssignstion from Biairs <br />to North Carolina. <br />Construct the two addiUonal lanes on Route 29 from Halifax Road/Route 655 in Danviile to Route <br />719 at Blsirs. <br />Support for Interstats 73 project; Pittsylvania County desires an alignment east of Martinsviile to <br />better serve Southside Virginia population, business, and manufacturing. <br /> <br /> <br />
