3'7~EDNESDAY, AUGUST 16, 1995 <br /> Editor of the Action Council's Newsletter ("Visions"); <br /> Dionne, Chairman of the Vision Committee. <br /> <br />and Jacques <br /> <br />Mr. Dionne presented a list of Ambassadors, whose charter stated their <br />mission as: "To promote the Martinsville and Henry County community in <br />a way that encourages and invites citizen involvement, promotes/builds <br />on the positive, looks for opportunities for continuous improvement, <br />and works to enhance individual/community self-esteem; so that citizens <br />are energized and committed to continuously elevate our overall <br />"community quality of life", and visitors and potential new businesses <br />always see us as a place where they would "want to live and work." <br /> <br />Supervisor Dalton took exception to elected'officials being appointed <br />as ambassadors, stating that he did not want the appointment to "be a <br />launching pad for someone's political agenda." Several members of the <br />Board and Council expressed support for the appointment of the elected <br />officials (Supervisors Burnette and Spencer). In response to a <br />question from Mayor Adams, it was noted that the ambassador program <br />would be terminated at the same time as the Action Council (January, <br />1996). <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council adopted the <br />"Declaration of Values" for the Ambassadors and appointed fifteen <br />individuals to the positions. The Board of Supervisors also took this <br />action with 5 Supervisors voting "yes" and Supervisor Dalton <br />abstaining.
