WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 16. 1995 <br />A special and duly-called meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr. presiding, was <br />held Wednesday, August 16, 1995 at the Dupont C.E.R.T. Building, <br />beginning at 5:30 P.M. The following members of Council were present: <br />George B. Adams, Jr., Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; Mark A. Crabtree; <br />and M. Gene Teague. Absent was Clyde L. Williams, who was away from <br /> <br />1,77 <br /> <br />the City. <br /> <br />Also in attendance were the members of the Henry County Board of <br />Supervisors: Francis Zehr, Chairman; Paula Burnette, Vice-Chairman; <br />Jack Dalton; Sandra Hodges; Sammy Pilson; and Simon Spencer. <br /> <br />The first item to be considered at this intergovernmental meeting was <br />a presentation of a report by the Martinsville-Henry County Action <br />Council. The two governing bodies first heard from Chairman Elizabeth <br />Haskell, who reviewed the Council's overall activities, which included <br />the first Industry Appreciation Week. Ms. Haskell reported that all of <br />the tasks given to the Council had either been accomplished or were in <br />the process of being accomplished. Ms. Haskell also provided an update <br />on the Action Council's budget status. <br /> <br />The Board and Council then heard brief reports from the various <br />committee chairmen involved in carrying out the Action Council's <br />agenda. The following individuals presented reports: Tom Harned, <br />Chairman of the Community/Media Partnership; Cynthia Ingram, Chairman <br />of the Community Assessment and School-to-Work Team; Kathy Rogers, <br />Chairman of the Education Summit Team; Jimmie Hawkins, Chairman of the <br />Community Networking Team and Leadership Training Team; Christine <br />Ziglar, Chairman of the Public Information Committee; E.
