~RID~Y, ~PRIL 21, 1995 <br />David DePriest, Executive Director of the Martinsville-Henry County <br />YMCA, was present to request continued fundin9 in the amount of $25,000 <br />for the YMCA's Starling Avenue facility. The City's "unofficial" <br />commitment to spend $25,000 per year for 10 years will end after FY 97- <br />98. <br /> <br />Representin~ the Uptown Revitalization Association was President W. C. <br />Fowlkes. The Association requested fundin~ for FY 95-96 in the amount <br />of $35,000. The FY 94-95 appropriation was $15,000. The City Manager <br />had recommended level fundin9 of $15,000 plus 811,000 to be taken from <br />the Capital Reserve Fund in order to pay for a market analysis study, <br /> <br />which was a part of the total $35,000 request. Mr. Fowlkes stated that <br />the FY 95-96 budget request was driven by the possible designation of <br />Martinsville as a Main Street Community, which requires the <br />organization to have fundin9 incertain pro~rammatic areas. <br /> <br />The meetin~ was recessed from approximately 12 Noon until 1:30 P.M. to <br />allow for the members of Council to eat lunch. <br /> <br />Representin9 the Virginia Museum of Natural History was Don Sutton. <br />The Museum requested fundin~ of $29,107 for FY 95-96, an increase of <br />$7,107. The City Manager recommended 822,000 in the basic budget and <br />$7,107 in the supplemental budget. <br /> <br />Bennie Summerlin, Director of Public Safety for Henry County, made the <br />budget request for the Local Emergency Plannin~ Committee and the <br />Western Virginia EMS Council. The Local Emergency Plannin9 Committee <br />request was $1,000, which was recommended for fundin~ by the City <br />Manager.
