THURSDAY, JANUARY 12, 1995 <br />Vice-Mayor Oakes stated that, in addition to discussing this issue with <br />the County Board of Supervisors, he would also be in favor of <br />conducting a forum involving a wider group of persons interested in <br />corrections. Vice-Mayor Oakes said he would like to ask the Board of <br />Supervisors if they are interested in participating in a forum on a <br />regional solution to problems involving corrections. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams asked the City Manager to study the following measures: <br />(1) combining the Prison Farm and Jail under one authority, (2) <br />constructing temporary space on Prison Farm Property, and (3) <br />conducting a public forum involving all correctional personnel on <br />community corrections programming. <br /> <br />The meeting was recessed at this point in order to provide Council the <br />opportunity to eat lunch. <br /> <br />Mr. Reynolds introduced Marvin Tart, engineer, and Brian Silvas <br />(engineer in training) of the Virginia Department of Transportation <br />(VDOT). Public Works Director Leon E. Towarnicki stated that Council <br />has had recurring discussions regarding the status of City's highway <br />projects, in particular the potential of constructing a sidewalk along <br />Fayette Street from Pine Hall Road to the Rivermont Apartments and the <br />area of the intersection of Liberty Street, Clearview Drive, and Stultz <br />Road. The only project in VDOT's Six-Year Plan for the City is the <br />extension of Commonwealth Boulevard from Chatham Road to Highway 58 <br />East. <br /> <br />Mr. Towarnicki said a decision on whether to proceed with a grant <br />application for federal ISTEA funding for the Fayette Street sidewalk <br /> <br /> <br />
