TUESDAY, JULY , 199~ <br />Police Department for the development of youth programs. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council set the <br />following dates and locations for Neighborhood Town Meetings for FY 96- <br />97: September 24, 1996--Albert Harris School; December 10, 1996-- <br />Clearview Elementary School; March 25, 1997--Virginia Museum of Natural <br />History; June 24, 1997--Patrick Henry Elementary School. <br /> <br />Council considered a request by Council Member Haskell to discuss the <br />establishment of a Volunteer Action Center. Council Member Haskell <br />stated that she was interested in setting up a system which would link <br />volunteers with people who need help, noting that there are a large <br />number of retired individuals in the area with time and talent to <br />offer. Council Member Haskell distributed a list of 24 other <br />communities across the State which have volunteer centers. Council <br />Member Haskell volunteered to assist in an effort to research this <br />issue in greater detail, and in response to a question from Council <br />Member Teague, stated that it would be desirable for Henry County to <br />participate in such an effort. Charles Gilbert, a citizen, in addition <br />to offering several suggestions to Council (such as being desirous of <br />seeing the old Hospital torn down and upgrading Patrick Henry Community <br />College to a 4-year institution) volunteered to assist in researching <br />this issue. Mr. Reynolds stated that he would attempt to bring further <br />information on this matter to Council during the second regularly <br />scheduled meeting in August. <br /> <br />In matters not on the agenda, the following items were discussed: (1) <br />Vice-Mayor Crabtree noted that Camp Lee Ford, operated by the Kiwanis <br />Club, had been reactivated this year; (2) Council Member Teague <br /> <br /> <br />
