THURSDAY, MAY 2, 1996 <br />future requests, the Drug Task Force review the proportion of funding <br />which should be requested from the City and the County, noting the <br />disparity in population between the two entities. <br /> <br />The next request was that of the Joint City/County Emergency Medical <br />Services Office. Bennie Summerlin, Director of Public Safety and <br />Operations for Henry County, was present to request funding of $33,901, <br />a 4% reduction from FY 95-96. Under the funding formula contained in <br />the City/County agreement, the City would pay 21% of the EMS Office's <br />costs for FY 95-96. Vice-Mayor Oakes expressed concern regarding the <br />over-utilization of the City Fire Department's First Responder Program <br />for non life-threatening EMS calls. <br /> <br />The VPI Extension Service budget request was made by Gene Amos, <br />Extension Agent. The agency requested $11,000 for FY 96-97, a 8500 <br />increase over the FY 95-96 amount. <br /> <br />The Martinsville-Henry County Rescue Squad budget request was made by <br />Virginia Phillips, Treasurer. The Squad requested a total of 814,000, <br />of which $7,940 was a City Contribution and $6,060 was pass through of <br />State "two-for-life" funds. <br /> <br />The Virginia Museum of Natural History budget request was made by <br />Museum Director Steve Pike. The Museum requested $46,408 in <br />operational funding and $200,000 in capital funding. The City Manager <br />recommended S29,107 in the basic budget and $17,301 in the supplemental <br />budget for operational funding. No capital funds were proposed by the <br />City Manager. Mr. Pike noted Henry County had included operational <br />funding of $35,000 in their budget, with no capital funding. Mayor <br /> <br /> <br />
