THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1996 <br />Mr. Towarnicki reported on a request which would be made in the FY 96- <br />97 budget for a project to update the City's mapping system, with the <br />eventual result being that maps would be converted to a digital format <br />and stored on an in-house computer. <br /> <br />The final area discussed was plans for expanding the Central Garage and <br />Warehouse complex. Plans included the following: removal of an <br />existing storage shed, construction of a new 15,000 square foot garage <br />building, construction of a salt storage facility, construction of a <br />new storage shed, enclosing an existing metal equipment shed, possibly <br />transferring the school maintenance operation to the existing garage <br />building, constructing a school bus/employee parking lot and a drivers' <br />locker/restroom facility, improving overall lighting and security, and <br />transferring the garage parts operation to a new building in order to <br />free up warehouse space. <br /> <br />Eugene Richardson, Electric Department Manager, reported on a 5-year <br />infrastructure plan for the Electric Department. The plan includes the <br />following items: developing a pole inspection and treatment program, <br />replacing 3 oil circuit breakers at the Aaron Street substation, <br />reconducting 34 KV transmission lines, building a line from the Depot <br />Street substation to Memorial Boulevard and Fayette Street, <br />reconducting or building a new line from Commonwealth Boulevard to <br />Memorial Hospital, and adding a 300 KVAR capacitor bank at the <br />Hospital. <br /> <br />John Dyches, Director of Water Resources, provided an update on <br />infrastructure needs of the Water Resources Department.
