TUESDAY, JANUARY'23, 1996 <br /> <br />order that the Virginia Department of Transportation program an <br />enhancement project in the City of Martinsville; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular session assembled January 23, 1996, that it does hereby request <br />the Commonwealth Transportation Board to establish a pro3ect for the <br />planning, acquisition and reconstruction of the existing Danville and <br />Western railway corridor for an interpretive pedestrian trail and <br />visitor's center, including appropriate streetscape improvements; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said City Council hereby agrees to pay <br />twenty percent of the total cost for planning and design, right-of-way, <br />and construction of this project, and that if the City of Martinsville <br />subsequently elects to cancel this project, the City of Martinsville <br />hereby agrees to reimburse the Virginia Department of Transportation <br />for the total amount of the costs expended by the Department through <br />the date the Department is notified of such cancellation. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council amended the <br />minutes of its December 12, 1995 meeting to authorize that $17,000 be <br />appropriated from the Electric Fund unexpended fund balance to the <br />General Fund Revenue line item 01 000500 5101014 and expended from the <br />General Fund Assistant to the City Manager for Community Development <br />line item 01 810000 7009000--Land Acquisition. <br /> <br />Council agreed to meet with the Henry County Board of Supervisors to <br />receive reports from the Action Council and the Educational Systems <br />Optimization Task Force on February 29, 1996 at 7:00 P.M. at the <br />Patrick Henry Community College Walker Fine Arts Center. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged a financial report for the month ending December <br />31, 1995. <br /> <br />In matters not on the agenda, the following items were discussed (1) <br />Councilman Crabtree, noting the development of an Abingdon, Virginia <br />electronic village, suggested the City may want to explore the <br />placement of terminals connected to the Internet at public buildings; <br />Councilman Teague suggested the Blue Ridge Regional Library system be <br /> <br /> <br />
