This request was made as
a result of the November 27, 1995 meeting between the School Board and
City Council at which the School Board requested a total supplemental
appropriation of S190,500 (Sl00,000 for replacement of a chiller at the
High School, $8,000 for replacement of a copier at Albert Harris
School, 88,000 for replacement of an air compressor at the High School,
$39,500 for educational programming for hearing-impaired students,
$15,000 for fees for a technology consultant, and 820,000 for fees for
a Superintendent search firm). Mr. Reynolds recommended Council
appropriate $62,803, consisting of $22,583 (a net underexpenditure of
the School System for FY 94-95) and $39,500 for education of the
hearing-impaired students. Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous
vote, Council approved the supplemental appropriation as recommended by
the City Manager.

Council considered appropriating $193,500 from the Meals Tax Fund to
the General Fund for architectural and engineering services for Albert
Harris School renovations and the Martinsville High School gymnasium.
Mr. Reynolds explained that if funding were approved, the City Staff
would issue a Request for Proposals for the Albert Harris project.
