THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12, 1995 <br /> <br />Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, and to carry <br />out all program administrative and reporting requirements on its <br />behalf. <br /> <br />Several members of Council expressed appreciation to the Staff and to <br />the West Piedmont Planning District Commission for their efforts in <br />developing the application. Councilman Willjams noted this was an <br />excellent example of the City and County working together to achieve a <br />common goal. <br /> <br />Council conducted a public hearing to receive applicants interested in <br />serving on the School Board to fill an unexpired term ending June 30, <br />1996. Mayor Adams read the following names as individuals who had <br />expressed interest in this appointment: Joseph Roach, 1011 Country <br />Club Drive; Naomi L. Hodge Muse, 611 First Street; Bill R. Manning, <br />1118 Knollwood Place; Michael Drahush, 1056 Meadowview Lane; Charles W. <br />Davies, Jr., 1234 Mulberry Road; Theresa Evatt Seay, 1010 Cherokee <br />Trail; Robert A. Williams, 1119 Corn Tassell Trail; and Roger L. Young, <br />719 Mulberry Road. The Mayor asked if any other persons should be <br />considered for this appointment. There being no response, the Mayor <br />asked for comments on behalf of one of the aforementioned candidates. <br />The following individuals spoke: (1) Kelvin Perry, speaking on behalf <br />of the Men's Roundtable Club, expressed support for the appointment of <br />Robert Willjams; (2) Rev. Jimmie Hawkins also expressed support for <br />Robert Williams; (3) Noreen Howard spoke in support of the appointment <br />of Naomi Hodge-Muse; and (4) William B. Muse also expressed support for <br />Naomi Hodge-Muse. The Mayor then asked if any of the proposed <br />appointees wished to make a public statement. The following <br />individuals spoke in support of their appointment: Naomi Hodge-Muse <br />and Charles W. Davies, Jr. Lafayette Jones stated that whoever is <br />appointed needs to investigate why young males begin to lose interest <br /> <br /> <br />
