in school. <br /> <br />THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12, 1995 <br /> <br />In a matter not on the agenda, Vice-Mayor Oakes expressed appreciation <br />to Chief of Police Terry L. Roop, whose retirement effective January 1, <br />1996 was earlier announced by the City Manager. <br /> <br />In accordance with Section 2.1-344 (A) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, <br />and as amended) and upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous <br />recorded vote, Council convened into Executive Session for the purpose <br />of discussing the following matters: (1) appointments to the School <br />Board, Board of Zoning Appeals, Transportation Safety Commission, <br />Industrial Development Authority, and Dan River Alcohol Safety Action <br />Program Policy Board, as authorized by Subsection 1; (2) the possible <br />disposition of publicly-held property, as authorized by Subsection 3; <br />(3) the possible acquisition of property for public use, as authorized <br />by Subsection 3; (4) the possible acquisition of property for public <br />use, as authorized by Subsection 3; and (5) a personnel matter, as <br />authorized by Subsection 1. At the conclusion of this Executive <br />Session, each member of Council certified that (1) only public business <br />matters exempt from open meeting requirements were discussed in said <br />Executive Session; and (2) only those business matters identified in <br />the motion convening the Executive Session were heard, discussed or <br />considered during said Session. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council reappointed <br />Whit Altizher, 26 Stafford Circle, and appointed Kevin Gravely, 1133 <br />Banner Street, as student members of the Transportation Safety <br />Commission for the 1995-96 School Year. <br /> <br /> <br />
