MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1995 <br /> <br />buildings; (5) compliance with current FCC Technical Requirements; (6) <br />increased channel capacity; (7) providing more user-friendly <br />converters; (8) expansion of the service area; (9) increased channels <br />for governmental programming; and (10) increased two-way transmission <br />capabilities. <br /> <br />At this point, Chairman Zehr and Mayor Adams declared the public <br />hearing open. The following individuals commented: (1) Doris Crouse, <br />representing the Communication Workers of America, stated a majority of <br />Adelphia's workers had voted to organize and encouraged Adelphia to <br />bargain in good faith to develop a contract; (2) David Martin, <br />Superintendent of the Henry County Public Schools, expressed a desire <br />for the cable operator to provide an educational access channel for the <br />Schools to use to inform parents and students of events and activities; <br />(3) Carolyn Byrd, representing Patrick Henry Community College, asked <br />that the College be assigned a channel on the lower tier to enable <br />persons without "cable-ready" televisions to receive it; Ms. Byrd also <br />asked that the College be notified of any change in its channel <br />location and requested that all subscribers to basic cable receive the <br />College's channel; (4) S. Harold Lamm, Superintendent of the <br />Martinsville City Schools, asked for cable access to each .classroom, <br />broadcast capability from the School Board Office, broadcast of School <br />Board meetings, equipment to videotape School Board meetings, an <br />electronic bulletin board system and provision of free subscription to <br />"Cable in the Classroom" magazine; (5) Nick Lawyer asked two questions <br />as follows, "Why does the County have a 15-year franchise?" and "Why is <br />there not competitive bidding for the franchise?"; (6) Cynthia Barrera <br />requested cable service in her local area, near Bassett; (7) Shirley <br />Craven, representing Bill Adkins Construction Corporation, reviewed <br /> <br /> <br />
