Council Member Roop noted his personal experience and that of the members of his church in <br /> <br /> working with City staff on an issue, and thanked them for a job well done. The Town Meeting was then <br /> opened for public comment. Mr. Lafayette Jones came forward to speak, and commended the Public Works <br /> department for improvements made on Brooks Street. He then noted that the City should look into finding a <br /> way to improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection of Market and Fayette Streets. Mr. Joe Finely then <br /> came forward to express his pleasure concerning the information that had been provided by City staff in their <br /> reports that evening~ especially with regard to those having to do with improvements in the School System. <br /> Another citizen came forward to encourage the City to have the City Farm inmates come out and clean up <br /> vacant lots in the Spencer Street and Barton Street areas. There were no further comments in the <br /> Neighborhood Town Meeting. <br /> <br />Council next considered the acceptance and appropriation of $24,614.21 in funds received from a Regional <br />Competitivehess Grant. Upon motion duly seconded, and by unanimous vote (5-Ayes--Crabtree, Teague, <br />Dallas, Haskell and Roop; 0-Nayes), Council accepted $24~614.21 received from the State into Revenue <br />Account 01-000500-240410(0Regional Competitiveness Grant and authorized appropriation of this same <br />dollar amount into Expenditure Account 01-910300-5301000--Regional Competitiveness Program in the <br />General Fund. <br /> <br />Council next considered adoption of a Resolution endorsing voter support of two Constitutional Amendments <br />that will be on the ballot in November 1998, namely Amendments 3 and 4, related to revenue-sharing <br />agreements between cities and counties, thereby enhancing economic development opportunities. <br /> <br />Following some discussion on the merits of these Amendments by Council, and upon motion duly seconded, <br />and by unanimous vote (5-Ayes Crabtree, Teague, Dallas, Haskell and Roop; 0-Nayes), Council approved <br />the following Resolution endorsing voter support of two Constitutional Amendments that will be on the ballot <br /> <br /> <br />
