TUESDAY, JUNE 23, 1998 <br /> <br />Next on the agenda was presentation of the regular monthly Financial Report, for the month ending May 31, <br /> <br />1998. In the absence of the City' s Finance Director, Mr. Wade Bartlett, Assistant City Manager Dewey P. <br />Cashwell presented this report. Mr. Cashwell noted that all revenue funds except the Sewer and School <br />Funds were exceeding anticipated amounts, and that the School Fund revenues should adjust once the semi- <br />annual transfer to this fund is made. He also noted that revenues were greater than expected expenditures in <br />all funds except the School Fund, and that it was anticipated that expenditures would be lower than budgeted <br />in all funds by the end of the fiscal year. The Mayor noted that there was a significantly larger revenue figure <br />in the Meals Tax Fund. Council Member Haskell asked if an update on the repeal of the Automobile, or <br />Personal Property Tax could be provided, and City Manager Reynolds stated that with Commissioner of the <br />Revenue Ronnie Minter' s help it could be provided at the next Council meeting. <br /> <br />Council next considered their Consent Agenda, which consisted of one item. Upon motion duly seconded, <br />and by unanimous vote Council approved the following: <br /> <br /> A. Accepted and appropriated $1,574.64 of State Forfeited Asset funds to the Police Department's <br /> budget in the General Fund, by accepting said funds into Revenue Account 01-000500-2404000 <br /> and appropriating said funds into Expenditure Account 01-310100-5415007 in the Police <br /> Department's budget in the General Fund. <br /> <br />Under items not on the agenda, Vice Mayor Crabtree noted that the Commission on the Future of Virginia <br />Cities had begun its work, and that Council needed to keep close track of this Commissions work. Council <br />Member Haskell stated that the Virginia Municipal League Finance Committee needed to keep a close eye on <br />these activities as well. Vice-Mayor Crabtree stated that there should also be a renewed effort to seek return <br />of the 599 funds for law enforcement from the State legislature as well. The Vice-Mayor also noted the need <br />to have adequate City representation at the upcoming 1-73 meeting to be held by George Lester and his <br />personnel on July 22, 1998.
