TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1998

WHEREAS, the gifted property will be providing opportunities for key commercial and
economic development projects that will result in economic stability, expansion of the tax base
and job growth; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Counc~ of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular sesmon
assembled February 10, 1998, that it does hereby thank and recognize the Tultex Corporation
for its contribution in supporting economic growth in the City of Martinsville and Henry
County.

Under the next item on the agenda, Business from the Floor, Mr. Ralph Draper came forward to state that he
had recently noted difficulty in negotiating the manhole covers in the City' s streets, finding them to be
recessed so far below the grade of the asphalt following recent repaving as to be a hazard to motorists. Mr.
John Dyches, Director of Water Resources, asked Mr. Draper for more information about specific sites in
question, and promised to respond to the problem.

Next under Business from the Floor, Vice-Mayor Crabtree took this occasion to announce his candidacy for
re-election to Council in the upcoming May election. The Vice-Mayor expressed his appreciation for the
public trust that had been placed in him, and his deep appreciation for the support and encouragement of his
friends and family. He went on to note the importance of education and economic development to the future
of the City, and cited the development of school facilities and technology, Community Oriented Policing, first
responder capability development in the Fire Department, property maintenance improvements, and numerous
community and economic development achievements which had been achieved and/or enhanced during his
service on Council. Vice-Mayor Crabtree closed by stating that he had been honored to have been a part of
these and other accomplishments, and pledged his continued commitment to helping Martinsville become one
of the best small cities in America.
