TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1998 <br />A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. <br /> <br />Adams, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, February 10, 1998, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at <br />7:00 P.M. The following members of Council were present: George B. Adams, Jr., Mayor; Dr. Mark A. <br />Crabtree, Vice-Mayor; Bruce H.T. Dallas, Elizabeth H. Haskell, and M. Gene Teague. <br /> <br />After the invocation, provided by Vice-Mayor Crabtree, and followed by the Mayor's cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council approved, upon motion duly seconded, and by unanimous vote, the minutes of its <br />meetings of January 13 and January 27, 1998. <br /> <br />1.4. <br /> <br />The next item for Council's consideration was the adoption and presentation of a resolution expressing <br />Council's appreciation to the Tultex Corporation for its recent donation of land in the Uptown area to the <br />City. Ms. Kathy Rogers of Tultex Corporation was present to accept the Resolution. Upon motion duly <br />seconded and by unanimous vote, Council adopted the following: <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THANKS TO <br /> TULTEX CORPORATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Tultex Corporation is a major industry in the Martinsville-Henry County area, <br />offering employment, capital investment and other contributions to the improvement of <br />economic conditions in our area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Tultex Corporation has donated several parcels within the block bounded by <br />Church, Moss, Fayette, and Market Streets in the City of Martinsville to the City of <br />Martinsville Redevelopment and Housing Authority for redevelopment as a commercial area; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the donation by Tultex Corporation will, by their generosity, help to bring more <br />commerce, more jobs, and a better standard of economic living to our area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Tultex Corporation has made this property available to the Authority for the <br />Authority's use for commercial development purposes and for the intended purposes of the <br />Authority as established by the City of MartinsviHe; and <br /> <br /> <br />
