TUESDAY. MARCH 11, 1997 <br /> <br />Detention Center, such cost not to exceed an amount of $2,886 as its <br />local share. <br /> <br />Council considered adopting a Resolution endorsing the Partnershipsfor <br />Progress in its efforts to support economic growth. Roger .Young, <br />President of the Partnership for Progress, was present to support the <br />Resolution. Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council <br /> <br />adopted the following Resolution: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Partnership for Progress is a private, non-profit group <br />which offers every Martinsville-Henry County citizen an opportunity to <br />contribute to the improvement of economic conditions in our area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Partnership for Progress will offer assistance to com- <br />panies wishing to expand or locate in our area, and will make funds <br />available for investments such as industrial "shell" buildings, land <br />purchases, and marketing materials, and will assist area non-profit, <br />tax-exempt economic development agencies; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Partnership for Progress is looking for concerned citizens <br />of Martinsville-Henry County who are committed to our community's <br />economic health and progress, and the Partnership is open to anyone <br />interested in helping, by their support, to bring more industry, more <br />3obs, and a better standard of economic living to our area, and <br />Partnership for Progress partners will be stake-holders who will be <br />given a voice and an opportunity to contribute; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Partnership for Progress is a private and independent <br />organization created to promote and support economic growth and job <br />creation, and to improve the quality of life in Martinsville-Henry <br />County using funds raised through dues and donations; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Partnership for Progress partners will be providing input <br />to key community development projects that will result in economic <br />stability, expansion of the tax base and job growth; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular session assembled March 11, 1997, that it does hereby endorse <br />and recognize the Partnership for Progress for its contributions in <br />supporting economic growth in Martinsville-Henry County. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council accepted and <br />appropriated 83,612.24 received in Federal and State Forfeited Assets, <br />as follows: (1) 81,037.65 from the U. S. Treasury, to be appropriated <br />to the Police Department's FY 96-97 budget; (2) 8157.55 from the <br />Martinsville City Sheriff's Office to be appropriated 8141.79 to the <br /> <br /> <br />
