TUESDAY, JANUARY 28, 1997 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Senator Charles R. Hawkins has introduced Senate Joint <br />Resolution 26 (as amended), which would allow counties, cities and <br />towns to establish special governing bodies for certain commercial land <br />areas and to share the revenues and costs associated with these <br />districts without a local referendum; now, therefore <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular session held on January 28, 1997, that it supports SJR 26 and <br />urges its passage by the Virginia General Assembly; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be transmitted to Senators <br />Charles R. Hawkins and Wm. Roscoe Reynolds and Delegates Ward L. <br />Armstrong, Barnie K. Day and Allen W. Dudley. <br /> <br />In matters not on the agenda, the following items were discussed: (1) <br />Council Member Dallas stated that a citizen had complained about being <br />charged 8300 for transportation to the Hospital by Stone Ambulance <br />Service after the Rescue Squad failed to respond to a call; City <br />Manager Earl B. Reynolds, Jr. said the Communications Center Dispatcher <br />is.directed to ask the individual calling for an ambulance if they <br />agree to pay for private ambulance service prior to the private service <br />being dispatched; (2) in response to an inquiry from Council Member <br />Haskell, Mr. Harned provided an update on the City Staff's activity <br />with regard to the old R. P. Thomas property which was purchased by the <br />Housing and Redevelopment Authority; Council Member Haskell asked for <br />an update report on this matter at the next Council meeting; (3) Vice- <br />Mayor Crabtree noted that his nephew, St.even Gillispie, had requested <br />the Council Members affix their signatures to the Martinsville Middle <br />School's signature board during the January 30, 1997 tour of the City <br />Schools; (4) an announcement was made regarding Council's activities <br />during the Virginia Municipal League's Legislative Day scheduled for <br />February 6, 1997; Vice-Mayor Crabtree, noting that 3 or more members of <br />Council would be riding to Richmond in one vehicle, invited members of <br />the media to also ride in that vehicle; and (5) Council Member Teague <br />asked for an update report on the Interim Jail Project and New Jail <br />Project for the next Council meeting; Mr. Reynolds stated a <br /> <br /> <br />
