TUESDAY, JANUARY.I&, 1997
convened. Present were all members of the Authori~yx George B. Adams,
Jr., Chairman; and the other members of City Council acting as the
Authority. Assistant to the City Manager for Development Thomas Herned
explained that it was necessary for the Authority to authorize two
lease agreements related to the relocation of the Department of Motor
Vehicles Office in the City. Mr. Herned stated that Dav-Can
Associates, owner of the land where the new DMV Customer Service Center
will be located, will develop and build the Customer Service Center and
lease it to the Housing Authority. The Housing Authority will sub-
lease this property to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Upon motion,
duly seconded and by unanimous vote, the Authority authorized the
Chairman to execute the following leases: (1) a lease between the
Martinsville Redevelopment and Housing Authority and Dav-Can Associates
of South Boston, Virginia; and (2) a sub-lease between the Martinsville
Redevelopment and Housing Authority and the Department of Motor
Vehicles.

The Chairman then declared the meeting of
Redevelopment and Housing Authority ad3ourned.

the

Martinsville

The City Council meeting was then reconvened, with all members present.

Council Member Haskell, noting the increasing number of agenda items at
City Council meetings, suggested that Council begin its regular bi-
monthly meetings at 7:00 P.M. rather than 7:30 P.M. Upon motion, duly
seconded and by unanimous vote, Council approved this change in meeting
time, effective for the February 11, 1997 regular meeting, sub3ect to
final approval during the January 28, 1997 meeting.
