<br />February 13, 2007 <br /> <br />Mark Heath gave the monthly update from the Martinsville-Henry <br /> <br />County Economic Development Corporation. He mentioned an upcoming small <br /> <br />business workshop and handed out samples of ads that will run as part of <br /> <br />their new marketing campaign relating to tourism. He gave an update on the <br /> <br />progress of marketing the retail side of the Buxton study. The EDC is currently <br /> <br />working with six prospects for the city-three are call centers, one for the shell <br /> <br />building at the Patriot Centre, one restaurant and one industrial prospect. Mr. <br /> <br />Heath also responded to questions from Council concerning the motor sports <br /> <br /> <br />program at PHCC as well as the recent purchase by Henry County of the <br /> <br /> <br />Athena building in the City's Clearview Industrial Park for potential relocation <br /> <br /> <br />of the Henry-Martinsville Department of Social Services and the Health <br /> <br />Department. <br /> <br />David Hughes of Robinson, Farmers & Cox gave a brief overview of the <br /> <br />FY06 audit report. <br /> <br />Wayne Knox, Director of Community Development gave an update on the <br /> <br />Cherry Street Neighborhood Improvement Project indicating that they are in <br /> <br /> <br />the final stages of applying for the grant from the Department of Housing and <br /> <br /> <br />Community Development, which application is due March 21, 2007. James <br /> <br /> <br />Crigger, a member of the City's Planning Commission, mentioned the mixed <br /> <br /> <br />zoning currently in the area and would like to see it more uniform as part of <br /> <br />the new project. Mr. Knox indicated that a public hearing would be advertised <br />
