<br />January 23, 2007 <br /> <br />Ruth Easley, Commissioner of the Revenue, gave a quarterly report on <br /> <br />the current reassessments of taxable real property and exempt real property. <br /> <br />Council Member Ferrill requested a list of the current undeveloped commercial <br /> <br />and industrial properties in the City and their assessed values. She also <br /> <br />reported on the real estate market trend as well as the meals tax and business <br /> <br />license trends. <br /> <br />Pat Conrad, City Treasurer, was not present at the meeting, but had <br /> <br />provided Council a report. Wade Bartlett, Finance Director, presented a <br /> <br /> <br />quarterly financial report for the period ending December 31, 2006. City <br /> <br /> <br />Manager Collins gave the quarterly update on Council's goals and initiatives, <br /> <br /> <br />highligh ting several areas where progress has been made since the last report. <br /> <br />In business from the floor, Samuel Joyce of Bassett, Dink Mason, of 531 <br /> <br />Mountain Valley Road, Axton and Raymond Marshall, of 615 Jefferson Street <br /> <br />expressed their concerns in the closing of the Reservoir and their support of <br /> <br />the Lake Warden; Bruce Dallas of 211 Massey Street made comments about <br /> <br />the citizens being over taxed and the large fund balance; Leonard Jones, <br /> <br />current president of the local NAACP, commented on the undeveloped land <br /> <br />mentioned by Council Member Ferrill, invited members to NAACP annual <br /> <br />award banquet on January 27 at the Dutch Inn, requested a report on how <br /> <br />many times Leisure Services has been cut in the last 15 years, expressed his <br /> <br />support of the programs, asked how the Hooker closing would affect the <br /> <br />Mustangs and if a town meeting on the budget would be held in each <br />
