<br />4 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANU.ARY 24t 1956 <br /> <br />~- <br /> <br />for a new property tax rate limit of $2.50: <br /> <br />WHEREAS there are two bond ordinances pending which will in the <br />near future bring before the voters of the City of Martinsville <br />proposed bond issues in the sum of $l,45C,OOO for proposed <br />public school buildings; and for a proposed building for Police <br />E;l1d Fire Stations and Court facilitj.es in the sum of *?275,000; <br />and, <br /> <br />,.,..-- <br /> <br />WllffiEAS the present City Charter contains a t~{ rate limit on real <br />and personal property of $2.25 per one hundred dollars of assessed <br />valuation, which at the present t:Llle is applied on the basis of <br />$2.00 rate on real estate and ;,?2.25 rate on personal property; and, <br /> <br />WBEREAS the proposed bond issues, if passed, may make it necessary <br />to :increase the tax rate on real and personal property in excess <br />of the limits nO\.[ contained in the City Charter; now, therefore, <br /> <br />m! <br />m <br /> <br />BE IT REZOLVED by the CO'Lillcil of the City of l1artinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this tvlenty-fourth day of <br />January, 1956, that it hereby requests the City's representatives <br />in the Virginia General M:sembly nO\'[ in session to present and <br />sponsor for passage an amendment to the City's Charter increasing <br />the City's maximum tax rate lllnit to 02.50 instead of or from its <br />present rate limit of $2.25 in order that this Council may in- <br />crease said tax rate within said lir:1it if it becomes necessary to <br />do so to provide for the pa:;nnent of principal and interest on <br />said bond s . <br /> <br />Council also unanimously adopted the following resolution requesting an amendment <br /> <br />to the City's Charter to provide for a Hartinsville Redevelopment and Housing <br /> <br />Authori ty whose members or co:rn.'TIissioners may be members of the Council: <br /> <br />.....-. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Hartinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-fourth day of January, 1956, <br />that it doth herein request its representatives in the Virginia General <br />Assembly, now in session, to present and sponsor for passage an <br />amendment to the City's Charter to provide as follows: <br /> <br />An Act to haeno Chapter 193, Acts of General Assembly of 1950, <br />Providing a New Charter for the City of Hartinsville, Virginia, <br />as amended, by Adding a New Section to Chapter I of said Charter <br />to be Described as Paragraph TIlirty-Ei@lt (3~) of Section two (2) <br />Thereof: <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, as follows: <br /> <br />That Chapter I, Section 2 of an act entitled "An Act to Provide <br />a new Charter for the City of Nartinsville Virginiall, approved <br />lvlarch 1.4, nineteen hundred and fifty, be amended by the addition <br />of a new paragraph to Chapter I, Section 2 of said Charter, to be <br />designated as paragraph No. 38 thereof to read as follows: <br />
