That representatives and the o~mers of property on the east and <br />west sides of the Old Danville Road bet\.Jeen Church Street and <br />parkview Avenue which is presently zoned as A-l and A -2 <br />Residential property were present at the hearing and objected <br />to a change in their present zoning. 1nese representatives <br />included Hr. Benjamin F. Gravely for the C. Y. Thomas Estate <br />who stated that their subdivis_'on plans "Here being made to <br />utilize their property under its present A-l Residential zoning <br />and the. t they \.Jould not li2<:e it changed, even though the maj ori ty <br />of the property directly across Old Danville Road is presently <br />zoned to B-2 or Industrial use. <br /> <br />It was pointed out by the Planning Commission to Hr. Gravely that if <br />his plans for a subdivision included front:il1[; houses on the Old <br />Danvi11e Road opposite this B-2 zoning that a determination would be <br />made at such time as the C. Y. TIlomas Estate approached the Commission <br />with a subdivision layout for the Commission's approval whether or <br />not an improper use was being planned and also that the question of <br />zoning of this property might arise 9_gain at that time. <br /> <br />TDe Planning Commission respectfully ffilbmits the above recomr~endations <br />for Council's further consideration. <br /> <br />Council unanimously accepted seid report and reconLl1londations and adopted the <br /> <br />following ordLDance amending the City's Zoning Code to effect said rezoning <br /> <br />immediately: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAmED by the Council of the City of }1artinsville, in regular <br />meeting assembled this twenty-fourth day of Janl1ary, 1956, that the <br />Zoning Code and Zoning Hap of the Ci t~r of Hartinsville be amended to <br />provide as follows: <br /> <br />1. That the east side of the Old Danville Road betvleen <br />a point 460 feet north of its intersection ..lith <br />Parkview Avenue and a point 1530 feet sou~~ of the <br />above-mentioned intersection be rezoned from B-1 <br />Business to A-2 Residential zoning. <br /> <br />2. That the west side of the Old Danvil1e Road between <br />the above-mentioned points be rezoned from B-I <br />Business to A-I Hesidentia1 zoning. <br /> <br />An amergency existing, this ordinance shall be in force from date of <br />its passage. <br /> <br />After discussing ways and means of financing anticipated debt service on the <br /> <br />two bond ordinances nOVl pending before C01Jncil--viz., for construction of <br /> <br />new school buildings and for construction of a Police-Fire Headquarters <br /> <br />building--Council, by a recorded vote ~lich was unanimous, adopted the <br /> <br />following resolution calling for an amendment to the City's Charter to provide <br />
