4 TCESDAY JAiJUARY 24, 1956 on which both the Commission and the Council had already conducted public hearings: The Martinsvil1e City Planning COJ11liussion, at its meeting on January 17, 1956, considered Council's request to ro-study the entire matter of present and futl1re zoning a1ru1g the Old Danvi11e Road between Church street and Parkview Avenue. This meeting was in the form of a public hearing on Council's request. The Planning Commission, after due consideration of this matter, voted to make the following recommendations to Council: 1. That the present zoning betweon Church Street and a point 460 feet north of the intersection of the Old Danville Road and Park- view Avenue remain in its present classifications. 2. That all of the property lying on the east side of the Old Danvi11e road between a point 460 feet north of Parkview Avenue and a point 1530 feet south of Parkviei" Avenue be rezoned from B-1 Business to A-2 Residential. That a public hearing on this matter '.laS duly advertised in the local newspaper; That copies of the advertise~ent were mailed to parties directly affected; That copies of this notice were also distributed by hand to the property OiJDerS on the northeast side of Hundley street adjacent to properties on th~ Old Danvil1e Road by the secretary of the Pl~~ing Crumaission. 2. That it is apparent from information gleaned in the public hearing that it is the wish of the great majori t;{ of property owners in this area ~~at the above recommendations be made. 3. That three occupants of houses on Hundley Street were present and no objections were recorded from them to the above reco~~endations, one stating that they would prefer residential use of the property on the Old Danville Road that is presently zoned for B-1 use in this area. 4. That the objectant to the Comr:ussion's recorrmlendations was heard. 5. That the area in question is predominately residential at the present time and ne\.l residences have recently been erected in the business zone even though the residents were required to comply with the fire zone regulations. 6. That recently an area on Spruce Street has been rezoned for the construction of a shopping center which, if built, should suffice to serve this area comrnercially.
