<br />420 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 24. 1956 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of ibe City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />Ci ty Hall, on Tuesday, January 2/~, 1956, at 7:30 P .H., with all members present, <br /> <br />as follO\vs: Hayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett; Vice-l1ayor and Councilman C. P. <br /> <br />Craig; and Councilmen B. H. Hill, W. T. lurner, and J. R. Walker, <br /> <br />After the invocation by Hayor ~{odnett, Council approved as read the minutes <br /> <br />of its regular meeting held January 10, 1956. <br /> <br />In accordan re with dlJly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a Public <br /> <br />Hearing on a proposal to rezone to tlB-l lksinesstl, J:'or a (;epth of tvlO hundred <br /> <br />feet, that :property on both sides of Hemorial Boulevard South, betv18en Rivermont <br /> <br />Heights intersection and the City's South Corporate Limits, not already zoned <br /> <br />tlB-l Business". Although two residents of the area (Hessrs. Atkins and Richardson) <br /> <br />suggested that Council defer action on this matter until the extension of Memorial <br /> <br />Boulevard is completed, Council voted unanimously to effect said rezoning <br /> <br />ilmmediately--thus carrying out the Planning COmTaission's reco~~endations of AUgllSt <br /> <br />4, 1953 thereon--by adopting the following ordinance amending the City's Zoning Code: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAI}lliD by the Council of the City of Martinsville, in <br />regular meeting assembled this tvrenty-fourth de.;y of January, 1956, <br />that the Zoning Code and Zoning Hap of the City of Martinsville <br />be amended to provide that the following areas are hereby rezoned <br />from "A-2 Residentiallt to tlB-l Business": <br /> <br />1. The west side of Hemorial Boulevard South from <br />the north line of Sunset Drive for a distance <br />of 764 feet north--depth of two hundred feet; and <br /> <br />2. The east side of Memorial Boulevard South from <br />the City's south corporate limits for a distffilce <br />of 528 feet north--dept..~ of tuo hundred feet. <br /> <br />An emergency existing, this ordinance shall be in force from <br />date of its passage. <br /> <br />Under date of January 20, 1956 the City Planning COl~ussion submitted its following <br /> <br />recommendations and report on the proposed rezoning of Old Danvi11e Road, a matter <br />
