<br />~28 <br /> <br />JANUARY 11, 1955 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of' Martiroville, Virginia, in regular <br />meeting assembled this eleventh day of January, 1955, that an ordinance pres- <br />cribing rules and regulations for the operation of the City's Electric System, <br />as adopted January 27, 1953, be and hereby is amended with respect to electric <br />vra ter hea ter pr ovis io ns, as fo llows : <br /> <br />The approved type of electric water heater, as contemplated under paragraph <br />"Water Heater Serv:ic en of the Domestic Service tariff, shall conform to the <br />following standards: <br /> <br />Domestic electric water heaters approved for use under the water heater <br />service provisions of the domestic service tariff shall be manufactured in <br />accordance with NE~ffi (National Electrical 1~nufacturers Association) <br />standards for construction, insulation, controls, etc., and shall consist <br />of a permanently installed tank of not less than 30 gallons capacity with <br />two thermostatically controlled elements totalling at least 1000 watts. <br />The srraller element, located at the bottom of the tank shall not exceed <br />2000 watts. The larger or booster element, located approximately one- <br />quarter of the way down the tank from the top, shall not exceed 3000 watts. <br /> <br />When a heater has elements totalling over 3000 watts it shall be connected <br />so that both elements will not operate at the same time. <br /> <br />Where manufacturers are not able to certify that their heaters are built to <br />NE1{A standards, the City reserves the right to have its own tests of heaters <br />conducted before such heaters are accepted for use under the water heater <br />service provisions of the domestic service tariff. <br /> <br />An emergency existing, this amendment shall be in force from date of passage. <br /> <br />Council, next, approved the City's Welfare Departmmt IS budget request of $41,866.00 <br /> <br />for the fiscal year ending Jure 30, 1956. <br /> <br />In view of the unusually large expenses incurred by the City during the six months <br /> <br />ended December 31, 1$154 for medically-indigent hospitalization, Council authorized <br /> <br />the transfer of $2,000.00 to this account from the General Fund Emergency Account <br /> <br />provided the Commonwealth of Virginia. reimburse the City for fifty per cent (50%) <br /> <br />of future expenses from this amount during the remainder of the current fiscal year. <br />
