<br />2~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUl\1E 8, 1954 <br /> <br />In connection with the following recommendations of the Planning Commission regarding <br /> <br />zoning for public truckin[; terminals and public warehouses and, too, the petitions <br /> <br />recently submitted by Mrs. Evelyn E. S tone and others, owrers of the properties on <br /> <br />which the Virginia-Carolina Trucking Company and the R. P. Thomas Trucking Company <br /> <br />are located, Council called for a public hearing on these matters to be held in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, on Jure 29, 1952+, at 7:30 P.M." at a special meeting of <br /> <br />the Council, to which meeting and hearing Council invited all members of the <br /> <br />Planning Commission to be present: <br /> <br />The Planning Commission, in considering the petition of Mr. James C. Stone and <br />Mrs. Evelyn H. Stone, referred to it by the City Council, and requesting the <br />rezoning of all that property owned by the petitioners fronting on the south <br />side of Fayette street, did on its OVfn motion consider the reclassification of <br />public trucking terminals, warehouses, and kindred fac ili ties in the ci ty as a <br />whole. <br /> <br />~~ <br />~~ <br />~~ <br />i <br /> <br />Public notice was:iven and letters forwarded to all operators of such facilities <br />and numerous hearings held wi th respect thereto at vrhich times the Commission <br />heard evidence from adjoining property mvners and trucking facility operators. <br />During the course of matters another petition, that of Mrs. Evelyn H. Stone, was <br />referred to the Commission by the Douncil requesting the rezoning of proper~ <br />owned by the petitioner and occupied by the R. P. Thomas Trucking Company, <br />which property lies between the north side of the New Danville Highway and the <br />southwest side of Bob Gregory Street. <br /> <br />As a result of these considerations the Planning COJT1.mission makes three unanimous <br />recorrnnendations to the Ci~ Council as follows: <br /> <br />(1) That Item 3 of Section 6 of the present Zoning Ordinance be re-enacted to <br />read as follovlS: "All public utilities with the exception of public <br />freighting or public trucking terminals and yards. All warehouses except <br />public warehouses.1I <br /> <br />(2) That the property of Mr. James C. Stone and Mrs. Evelyn H. stone, <br />Petitioners, occupied by Virginia-Carolina Trucking Company, be rezoned <br />from present A-2 Residential zoning and B-1 Commercial zoning to B-2 <br />Industrial zoning in order to afford opportunity of expansion and for <br />reasons set forth hereinafter. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />(3) That the property of ~~s. Evelyn H. Stone, Petitioner, occupied by R. P. <br />Thomas Trucking Company, be rezoned from present B-1 Commercial zoning to <br />B-2 Indus trial zoning for the same reason as set forth immediately above. <br /> <br />In making these recommendations, the Commission has given careful consideration <br />to the following: <br />
