2~

TUES DAY

MAY 11, 1954

1. In planning the zoning for the new 220 Thoroughfare, the Planning Connnission
realized that the proximity of Lavinder Street to the new Thoroughfare
presented a problem for the proper utilization of properties fronting on
Lavinder Street and accordingly recommended the zoning of these properties
from A-2 Residential to B-1 Business. It was the feeling of the Commission
in making this recommendation, to be properly utilized, this property
should be extended to front the Thoroughfare.

2. The Commission, as the first step in accomplishing this, recommended to
Council that a portion of Lavinder Street be offidially abandoned. These
two recommendations were carried out by Council.

3. The disposition of the property requested by Reverend Houck is the second
step in bringing about the extension of the properties now zoned as B-1
Business to the right-of-way of the 220 Thoroughfare and wiiLl provide a
more orderly utilization of property along the Thoroughfare.

The Planning Commission respectfully submits the above reconnnendation to City
Council for its further consideration.

No action was taken by Council on the selection of an accounting firm to conduct the

m
~'i
~~
i

forthcoming annual audit, this matter being carried forvvard to the next meeting's

agenda.

Without complete~ relaxing the City's geooral policy ..nth regard to the extending

of the City's water mains outside the corporate limits, Council granted permission

(a) to Mrs. Greyson L. Pannill and others to extend a water main some 1250 feet

outside City's corporate limits on Hanover Drive, (b) to Mr. R. S. Brovm, Jr.,

president of Lanier Farm, Inc., to extend a water main on Clarke Road, and (c) to

Mr. Stafford Whittle, III, to extend a water main some 3000 feet on Knollwood

Place with the understanding that this work would be done in accordance with the

City's specifications and at the owners' expense. In further discussing this

subject, Council indicated that it would consider other similar requests, on their

own merits, as they may arise but, meanwhile, instructed Mayor Hodnett to appoint a

committee to give immediate consideration to a proposed subdivision ordinance

prepared and recommended by City Manager Mathewson which would regulate not only
