<br />~28 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY ll, 19.54 <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimous~ carried, the Council adopted the <br /> <br />following amendment to its Admission Tax Ordinance effective July 1, 19.54: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this eleventh day of May, 19.54, that it doth <br />hereby and herein amend Section 2 (TAX) of the Amusement Tax Ordinance <br />of said City of Martinsville to read as follovfS: <br /> <br />Section 2 - TAX <br />There is hereby levied and there shall be collected a tax of five <br />per centum (5%) of the amount paid for the admission to any place of <br />amusement or entertainment where the admission charge is 15~ or more, <br />to be paid by every person who pays such an admission charge to such <br />place. In case of any person (except those set forth in Section 9 of <br />this ordinance) being admitted to arw place of arrmsement of entertain- <br />ment at arw time when an admission charge is made to other persons, an <br />equivalent tax is hereby levied and sh~11 be collected based on the <br />price charged to such other persons of the same class for the same or <br />similar accommodations, said taxto be paid by the person so admitted. <br />Where the admission charge is less than 1.5~ the tax shall be ! of l~ <br />for admission or entertainment charge. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that this amendment shall become effective on July <br />1, 19.54. <br /> <br />In receiving and acknowledging the following Planning Connnission report regarding <br /> <br />a recent request from Mr. J. G. Houck, Council instructed that, through public <br /> <br />notice, bids be called for on proposed sale of the property described in said <br /> <br />report: <br /> <br />The Planning Commission of the City of Martinsville, at a call meeting on <br />Wednesday, ~~y 5, 1954, considered a request from the Reverend J. G. Houck <br />referred to them by the City Council. This request was far the purchase by <br />Reverend Houck of a triangular portion of property lying on the south side of <br />the 220 Thoroughfare and bounded on three sides by--On the North, by the 220 <br />Thoroughfare; On the South, by Lavinder Street; On the West, by the new <br />Lavinder Street connection with the Thoroughfare. <br /> <br />It is the Commission's understanding that if this request were granted, <br />Fceverend Houck would, at his own expense, move this new connection street <br />approximately 3.5 feet west. <br /> <br />After due consideration of this request, the Commission voted unanimously to <br />recommend to City Council that this request be granted, retaining however, <br />certain utility easements to protect water and sewer lines already in place <br />on a portion of this property. <br />
