<br />22 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 27, 1954 <br /> <br />Section 2 - TAX <br /> <br />There is hereby levied and there shall be collected a tax of five per <br />centum (5%) of the amount paid for the admission to any place of <br />amusement or entertainment where the admission charge is 15~ or more, <br />to be paid by every person who pays such an admission charge to such <br />place. In case of any person (except those set forth in Section 9 of <br />this ordinance) being admitted to any place of amusement or entertain- <br />ment at any time when an admission charge is made to other persons, an <br />equivalent tax is hereby levied and shall be colledted based on the <br />price charged to such other persons of the same class for the same or <br />similar acconmodations, said tax to be paid by the person so admitted. <br />Where the admission charge is less than 15~ the tax shall be t of l~ <br />for admission or entertainment charge. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that this amendment shall become effective on July 1, <br />1954. <br /> <br />By letter dated April 21, 1954 Attorney John E. Campbell, Counsel for Messrs. <br /> <br />J. Carroll Eanes and Robert H. Oakley, advised the Council through the City <br /> <br />Planning Commission that a request recently submitted to rezone certain property <br /> <br />owned by Messrs. Eanes and Oakley on the Figsboro Road (near Inman Street) has <br /> <br />been withdrawn by the petitioners. <br /> <br />Through communications from State Assembly Delegates William F. Carter and William <br /> <br />F. Stone, Council was informed of a public hearing to be conducted by the State <br /> <br />Highway Department on May D, 1954 (from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.) in Roanoke, <br /> <br />Virginia on allocations for primary roads in the Salem District. <br /> <br />In discussing the forthcoming presentation by City Manager :Mathewson of the <br /> <br />1954-55 budget and budget message, Council set Friday, May 7, 1954, at 7:45 P.M. <br /> <br />in the Council Ghamber, as a special public meeting of Council to receive said <br /> <br />budget and budget message. <br />
