<br />20 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 23, 1954 <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this twenty-third day of February, 1954, that it <br />doth herein approve said agreement dated February 23, 1954, hereinabove <br />referred to, and that it doth herein authorize the Treasurer of the City of <br />1\8.rtirnville to execute and deliver said agreement on behalf of said City <br />of Martinsville; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that the First & Merchants National <br />Bank of Richmond, as escrow agent under said agreement, and in carrying out <br />any of the provisions of said agreement, is authorized to act upon written <br />instructions signed by the Treasurer of the City of Martinsville. <br /> <br />~- <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, and upon recommendation of the <br /> <br />Department of Inspections through City Manager Mathewson, Council adopted, with <br /> <br />emergency clause attached, the following ordinance amending certain sections of <br /> <br />Chapter XXII of the City's Building Code ("Building Code, Martinsville, 1951"): <br /> <br />[m~ <br />at:. <br />rr <br />i <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this twenty-third day of February, 1954, that <br />Sub-sections 2201.2 - 2201.6 of the Building Code of the City of <br />Martinsville, entitled "Building Code, Martinsville, 1951", be amended <br />to read as follows: <br /> <br />CHAPTER XXII - USE OF PUBLIC ffiOPERTY <br />Section 2201 - General <br /> <br />2201.2 - Marquees <br /> <br />(a) <br />(b) <br />shall be protected with not less than one hour fire resistive protection as <br />specified in Chapter X. All glazing in marquees shall be of wired glass. <br />(c) Every marquee shall be at least ten feet in the clear, between the <br />lowest point or projection and a sidewalk immediately below. (See 2303.5 - <br />Marquee Signs.) <br />(d) No marquee shall extend or occupy more than two-thirds (213) of the <br />width of sidewalk measured from the building, except that such marquee may <br />occupy theentire width of the sidewalk, provided it is twelve feet in the <br />clear above the sidevralk and does not extend more than twenty-five (25) feet <br />along the direction of the length of the street. The overall height of any <br />marquee, including signs, shall not exceed eight (8) feet, measured from the <br />roof of such marquee. <br /> <br />Marquees shall be entirely supported from the building. <br />All combustible materials used in the construction of such marquees, <br /> <br />2201.3 - Moveable and Fixed Awnings (Metal or Canvas) <br /> <br />Moveable or fixed awnings may extend over public property, as measured <br />from the building, to a point not less than eighteen (18) inches from the face <br />of the curb or gutter line; such awnings or any part thereof shall maintain a <br />clear height of seven (7) feet above the sidewalk. <br /> <br />I <br />
