20 TUESDAY FEBRUARY 23, 1954 BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this twenty-third day of February, 1954, that it doth herein approve said agreement dated February 23, 1954, hereinabove referred to, and that it doth herein authorize the Treasurer of the City of 1\8.rtirnville to execute and deliver said agreement on behalf of said City of Martinsville; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that the First & Merchants National Bank of Richmond, as escrow agent under said agreement, and in carrying out any of the provisions of said agreement, is authorized to act upon written instructions signed by the Treasurer of the City of Martinsville. ~- Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, and upon recommendation of the Department of Inspections through City Manager Mathewson, Council adopted, with emergency clause attached, the following ordinance amending certain sections of Chapter XXII of the City's Building Code ("Building Code, Martinsville, 1951"): [m~ at:. rr i BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this twenty-third day of February, 1954, that Sub-sections 2201.2 - 2201.6 of the Building Code of the City of Martinsville, entitled "Building Code, Martinsville, 1951", be amended to read as follows: CHAPTER XXII - USE OF PUBLIC ffiOPERTY Section 2201 - General 2201.2 - Marquees (a) (b) shall be protected with not less than one hour fire resistive protection as specified in Chapter X. All glazing in marquees shall be of wired glass. (c) Every marquee shall be at least ten feet in the clear, between the lowest point or projection and a sidewalk immediately below. (See 2303.5 - Marquee Signs.) (d) No marquee shall extend or occupy more than two-thirds (213) of the width of sidewalk measured from the building, except that such marquee may occupy theentire width of the sidewalk, provided it is twelve feet in the clear above the sidevralk and does not extend more than twenty-five (25) feet along the direction of the length of the street. The overall height of any marquee, including signs, shall not exceed eight (8) feet, measured from the roof of such marquee. Marquees shall be entirely supported from the building. All combustible materials used in the construction of such marquees, 2201.3 - Moveable and Fixed Awnings (Metal or Canvas) Moveable or fixed awnings may extend over public property, as measured from the building, to a point not less than eighteen (18) inches from the face of the curb or gutter line; such awnings or any part thereof shall maintain a clear height of seven (7) feet above the sidewalk.
