<br />202 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 23, 1954 <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this twenty-third day of February, 1954, that it <br />doth herein approve said agreement and doth authorize its Mayor, Rieves S. <br />Hodnett, to execute said agreement on behalf of the Cii7J of Martinsville; <br />and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the <br />Carolina & Northwestern Railway Company. <br /> <br />Council, next, acknowledged the presence of Fire Chief J. E. Minter and members <br /> <br />of the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company who presented to the Council ailllual <br /> <br />reports of the Fire Department (both f1regularU and IIvolunteer"). In receiving <br /> <br />these reports, Council unanimously expressed its appreciation to the firemen <br /> <br />and Fire Department for the excellent work done by these Den not only in <br /> <br />fighting fires but also in their fire prevention activities. <br /> <br />Council received and referrAd to the City Planning COmIussion the following <br /> <br />recommendation of the City's Board of Zoning Appeals: <br /> <br />The Board of Zoning Appeals recommends that Chapter 1, Section 10, Sub- <br />section 1 of the Zoning Ordinance be amended to modify the rear yard require- <br />ments for Churches and Sunday School Buildings which are located in A-l and <br />A-2 Residential districts. <br /> <br />We recommend that church buildings which approach the rear lot line closer <br />than the present 15-foot requirement be built of substantially fire proof <br />material in order to protect adjacent property owners as well as the building <br />in question. <br /> <br />Upon request of the First National Bank of Martinsville, Virginia, Council adopted <br /> <br />the following resolution providing for ~~e execution of an amended escrow agreement <br /> <br />wi th said bank: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of IvIartinsville has been advised of the desire <br />of the Firs t National Bank of Martin'wille, Virginia, to enter into an agree- <br />ment with the First & Merchants Natiunal Bank of Richmorrl, Virginia, whereby <br />said First & M€rchants National Bank would be designated as escrow agent to <br />secure deposits of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with said First National <br />Bank of Martinsville, Virginia; now, therefore, <br />
