TUESDAY

NOVEMBER 10. 1952

Also, pursuant to duly-advertised notice, Council conducted a Public Hearing

on a petition from Lanier Farm, Inc. that the following property on and near

Spruce Street Extended be rezoned from "A-l Residential" to ttB_l BI.'-siness",
the City Planning Commission having placed itself on record as recommending
approval of the petition (October 13, 1953). In the light of evidence

presented at said Hearing, however, the petitioner (Lanier Farm, Inc.)

amended his original request to read as follows, and Council ordered a new

Public Hearing on same to be held December 8, 1953:

Beginning at a point in the north line of Spruce Street and on
the line between Lanier Farms, Inc., and the property facing
Parkview Street and lying on the N. E. corner of Parkview and
Spruce Street; thence following the north line of Spruce Street,
150 feet deep, for a distance of approximately 1,096 feet; and
including a proposed 50-foot street leading off said Spruce
Street to the north 150 feet on both sides.

In response to Council's request of October 27, 1953, the City Planning Commission

presented its following recommendation with respect to }IiI'. J. H. McMillan's

petition for a rezoning of his property at the intersection of River Hill Road

and the DuPont Road:

The Martinsville Planning Conunission held a meeting on October 29,
1953 at 2: 00 P.M., and at that time considered a request referred
to them by the City Council. This request was for Mr. James H.
McMillan. He requested the rezoning of property owned by him at
the intersection of South Bridge Street and DuPont Road. After due
consideration of this<request, the Commission unanimously voted to
make the following recommendation to the City Council:

Tha t all of the property owned by Mr. Mc1fdllan lying between Sunset
Drive and the corporate limit line be rezoned from A-2 Residential
to B-1 Business. The Commission would like to call to the Council's
attention its previous recommendation of August 14, 1953 to the
effect that all property on the east and west side of Route 220 or
South Bridge street be rezoned from A-2 Residential to B-1 Business
from 100 feet south of the intersection of DYe Plant Road and Bridge
Street to the corporate limit line at DuPont Road for a depth of 200
feet from the existing property lines.

The Commission feels that the present recommendation is in line with
this previous reco~~ndation since the majority of the property owned
by Hr. Mcl-1illan actually is a part of this DrAViml!'l .,.""I'r\mmo.....A<>+.;~_
