TUESDAY NOVEMBER 10. 1953 and Martinsvill.e Coca-Cola Bottling Company that their property on River Hill Road (South Bridge Street) be rezoned from t1A-2 Residential" to "B-1 Business" for a depth of two hundred feet from the respective right-of-way lines fronting on said River Hill Road. Having received from the City Planning Commission its recommendation that not only this property be rezoned as requested but that also all properties fronting on River Hill Road south of the petitioners' properties be similarly rezoned, although objections were registered by the owners of these other properties at a previous Council meeting as well as by subsequent letter from Hr. W. S. Slaydon, III, one of the other property owners, Council by a vote of four-to-one (Mayor Hodnett voting "no") went on record as approving the petitioners' request and adopted the following ordinance amending the City's Zoning Code: BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia in regular meeting assembled this tenth day of November, 1953 that the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville, entitled ItBuilding Zone Map of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, dated September 1, 1946t1, and the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Me.rtinsville be amended so that the following described property on River Hill Road (Bridge Street South) shall read and be classified as "B_1 Business" property: 't:l Q) ~ o Q) M H o o Q) C) ~ .~ -g o (/) .ri tl Beginning at a point 100 feet south of the intersection of the West line of Dye Plant Road with the East line of Route 220 south or South Bridge street, said point being at the South end of the present t1B-l Business" zone on the East side of South Bridge Street, thence following along the East side of South Bridge Street in a southerly direction, for a depth of 200 feet, approximately 595 feet to the South line of Lot No. 19 as shown on a map of the Lucy E. The terms of this Ordinance having been duly advertised in a Notice for Public Hearing, which Public Hearing was held this tenth day of November, 1953, said Ordinance is hereby adopted. and, an emergency existing, is made effective this tenth day of November, 1953.
