<br />1, <br /> <br />TUES DAY <br /> <br />JUNE 30, 1953 <br /> <br />",,--... <br /> <br />Pursuant to Council's request of June 9, 1953, the City Planning Commission <br /> <br />submitted its follovdng recommendation upon a petition to close an unopened alley <br /> <br />between East Church Street and East Church Street Extension: <br /> <br />In response to a request of Council dated June 12, 1953, in regard to the <br />closing of an unopened a:]..ley as requested by the Holy Trinity Lutheran <br />Church, the Planning Commission met on June 29, 1953, and voted unanimously <br />to recommend as follows: <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />That this alley, or street, lying between Church Street Extended and <br />East Church Street be closed, subject to whatever legal procedure is <br />deemed necessary by Council. <br /> <br />In arriving at this decision the Commission took into account that this alley, <br />or street, is not situated in the best possible place as regards good planning <br />of streets. Also, the opening of this alley, or street, would involve a grade <br />which is too steep to be practical. <br /> <br />We respectfully submit this recommendation for Council's further action. <br /> <br />Very truly yours, <br /> <br />~" <br />i~ <br />i <br /> <br />Richard L. Maury, Secretary <br />Martinsville Planning Commission <br /> <br />In accepting said recommendation, Council referred same to City Attorney Stone for <br /> <br />such legal procedure as required, indicating that only the portion of the unopened <br /> <br />alley as necessary to the Lutheran Church's purpose would be closed and marked <br /> <br />"vacated" . <br /> <br />Council then referred to the Planning Commission a request filed by H. Claybrook <br /> <br />Lester, Lessie Fralin Nunn, Orrin F. Nunn, and the heirs of Lucy E. Fralin, that <br /> <br />the property, known as the Fralin property on South Bridge Street, on the East side <br /> <br />of said Bridge Street beginning at a point 100 feet below the intersection of Dye <br /> <br />Plant Road and Bridge Street be rezoned from "A-2 Residential" to "B-1 Business" for <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />a distance of 650 feet South and for a maxinmm depth of 300 feet. <br />
