<br />10 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 9. 1953 <br /> <br />Mr. Kent Mathewson, City Manager <br />City of Martinsville <br />Martinsvi11e, Virginia <br /> <br />Re: Analysis of Bids - Water Works Improvements <br />Oi ty of Martinsvi11e, Virginia <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Mathewson: <br /> <br />This is in reference to the bids received June 4, 1953 for Water Works <br />Improvements for the City of Martinsvi11e, and we are herewith making our <br />recommendations as to the award of the contracts for this work. <br /> <br />Project No. 2 - Proposal No. 1 - Raw Water Pipe Line: <br />The most favorable proposal received on this section of the WON was sub- <br />mi tted by M. J. B1es Construction Company when this item is combined wi. th the <br />project for land clearing and the construction of the dam as covered by <br />Project No.4 _ Proposal No.1 and Project No. 5 - Proposal No. 1. On the <br />basis of deductions by calculating the proportional credit for the combined <br />project, there will be a deduction of $3,523.26, making the net price for this <br />Project No.2 _ Proposal No.1 $120,712.17. It is therefore recommended that <br />the contract for this project be awarded M. J. Bles Construction Company. <br /> <br />Project No. 4 - Proposal No. 1 - C1earin~ Reservoir Area: <br />The most favorable proposal for this work was submitted by M. J. Bles <br />Construction Company in amount of $33,731.70, and again applying the proport- <br />ional deduction credit for combined projects, this price is reduced by $956.36, <br />making the net contract price $32,775.34. It is therefore recommended that <br />the contract for land clearing be awarded to the M. J. B1es Construction <br />Company. <br /> <br />Project No. 5 _ Proposal No. 1 - Construction of Earth Fill Dam. Intake <br />Tower. Pipe Conduit. Spi11Wav and Canal: Again the most favorable proposal <br />was su1:mrl.tted by M. J. B1es Construction Company in the amount of $297,334.87, <br />and with the credit for the combined projects this proposal is reduced by <br />$8,432.92 to a net sum of $288,901.95. It is therefore recommended that the <br />contract for the dam be awarded to the M. J. B~es Construction Company, making <br />a total contract sum of $442,389.46 for the three contracts. <br /> <br />The deductioh for all proposals submitted by M. J. B1es Construdtion <br />COllI{>B.ny for combined contracts is $16,603.50 based on a total contract sum <br />of 1585,410.84 and the proportion of the original proposal of each contract <br />bid by M. J. B1es Construction Company, Divided by the total sum of <br />$585,410.84, gives a proportion which multiplies by the total deduction gives <br />the credit deduction for each of the three items given above to obtain the <br />net contract figure. It is also to be oorne in mind that these figures are <br />subject to adjustments based on the final construction contract price at the <br />termination of the job. <br /> <br />Project No.6 - Proposal No. 1 - Clear Water Lines in To1olIl: <br />The most favorable proposal on this work was submitted by Davis and Armentrout <br />of Pulaski in the amount of $91,921.15. It is recommended that the contract,be awarded to this concern, thus making the total contract sum for all contracts <br />$534,310.61.
