<br />1 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 9. 195~ <br /> <br />,r--' <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, June 9, 195.3, at 7:.30 o'clock P.M., all members, as fOllows, <br />being present: Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett, and Councilmen C. P. Craig, <br /> <br />D. H. Goode, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />-- <br />,/ <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Council meeting held May 26, 195.3, upon being read, were <br /> <br />approved. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved. of an agree- <br />ment between the City of Martinsville, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the <br /> <br />Norfolk & Western Railway Company for construction of an underpass under the <br /> <br />~::~ <br />~~ <br />i <br /> <br />Norfolk & Western Railway Com:pa.nyt s rail line as a part of the proposed Route 220 <br /> <br />Thoroughfare construction project, authorizing Mayor Hodnett to execute said <br /> <br />agreement on behalf of the City. <br /> <br />A petition presented by representatives of Holy Trinity wtheran Church, this city, <br />requesting the closing of an unopened alley extending from East Church Street to <br /> <br />/~ <br /> <br />East Church Street Extension and lying between the A. J. Evans and W. E. Mitchell <br /> <br />properties, was referred to the Planning Commission for its consideration and <br /> <br />recommendation. <br /> <br />In accordance with the following letter of recommendations submitted June 8, 195.3 <br /> <br />by Wiley & Wilson, Consulting Engineers, LynChburg, Virginia, Council awarded. the <br /> <br />waterworks improvement construction projects to be financed from bond monies, as <br /> <br />follows, authorizing City Manager Mathewson to execute contracts: <br />
