FEBRUARY 24, 1953

,-

PETITION

~-

Your Petitioners, Lanier Farm, Incorporated, and Cornelia G. Brown,
represent that a map showing Surry Court leading off the North side of
l/ulberry Road in the City of: 1lartinsville, Virginia, is of: record in lIap
Book 1, page 47 of the Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court of this City.
Said Surry Court is shawn on said map to be 30 feet in width at its
entrance on Mulberry Road, extending in a Western direction 75 feet in
width approximately 200 feet to a dead end.
Lanier Farm, Incorporated owns all of the property bordering on said
unopened street, except for the lot on the East side, which is owned by
Cornelia G. Brown.
Petitioners, with the advice of the City Engineering Department,
desire to enlarge, change and re-dedicate SurIJt- Court so that said Surry
Court will be 50 feet in width, in its entire length of approximately
600 feet and ending in a circular court with a diameter of 100 feet, thus
eliminating a right allSle turn, but requiring the revision of the unsold
lots bordering on said Surry Court in confonnity with the proposed lines of
said Surry Court. The new location proposes the entrance of Surry Court
into Mulberry Road approximately 30 feet East of the original pr'oposal.
A map of the revised lines of said Surry Court and adjoining ten lots
is herewith submitted titled, "Forest Park, Revision of Lots 7, 8 and 9 of
Section N; Surry Court, and a part of Lot 1 and Lots 29, 30 and 31 of
Section P of Forest Park, Subdivision of Lanier Farm, Incorporated, in the
Ci ty of Martinsville, Virginia. Revising said lots and court as previously
shown on Map of same by Harold B. BurSley, Civil Engineer, dated 1938 of
record in the Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court of the City of Martinsvil1e,
Virginia in Map Book 1, page 47. Scale- 1 in. equals 60 feet. Dated
February 17th, 1953, by H. S. Pierce".
THEREFORE your petitioners respectfully request, that since no one
except the petj tioners are affected by the proposed Change, and since the
City will benefit by the greatly increased area of street to be dedicated,
that the City Governing Body will adopt a proper resolution authorizing
and consenting to the proposed revised map and change in the location of
said Surry Court.
Respectfully submitted this 24th day of February, 1953.
