<br />o <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 24, 1953 <br /> <br />annual Firemen's Bazaar the forthcoming week of July 27th-August 1st at Brown <br /> <br />Street Field was unanimously approved by Council, subject to the concurrence of <br /> <br />the City School Board. This petition, incidentally, was supported by the signa- <br /> <br />tures of a majority of the citizens residing in the Brown street Field area. <br /> <br />Upon being informed by Mr. Brooks Leavitt, right-of-way agent for. the City-State- <br /> <br />Federal governments for the proposed Route 220 Thoroughfare, that he has been <br /> <br />unable to obtain an option from the.V. M. Draper Manufacturing Company, Inc. and <br /> <br />from one Fannie Bannister for the purchase of certain properties owned by these <br /> <br />two parties and needed for the said Route 220 Thoroughfare right-of-way, Council <br /> <br />unanimousJy adopted the following resolutm authorizing City Attorney Stone to <br /> <br />bring condemnation proceedings against these two parties for the acquisition of <br /> <br />the property required:: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Brooks R. leavitt, duly appointed agent for the City of <br />Martinsville, Commonwealth of Virginia, and the Federal Government, <br />in the matter of obtaining purchase options for properties required <br />for the proposed Route 220 Thoroughfare right-of-way, has officially <br />reported that he has exhausted all means wi thin the limitations of <br />his au thor i ty , without suc cess, towa!' ds acquiring certain properties <br />from the V. M. Draper Manufacturill€ Compa!':\Y, Inc. and from one <br />Fannie Bannister needed for said Rcute 220 Thoroughfare right-of-way; <br />Now, Therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, on behalf <br />of the goverrun8nts . hereinabove mentioned, J~ regular meeting assembled <br />this twenty-fourth day of February, 1953~", aoth hereby appoint <br />William F. Stone as its attorney in this matter and doth herein <br />authorize said William F. Stone to bring and conduct condemnation <br />proceedings to acquire in the name of and on behalf of the City of <br />Martinsville said certain properties from the V. M. Draper Manufacturing <br />Company, Inc. and said Fannie Bannister for the purpose hereinbefore <br />stated. <br /> <br />In approving the following petition submitted by Lanier Farm, Inc., seeking <br /> <br />permission to alter street lines in an unopened street court named Surry Court, <br /> <br />which petition and proposal had been previously approved by the Planning <br /> <br />Commission, Council adopted the following resolution: <br />
