<br />32 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 9. 1952 <br /> <br />This matter 'WaS referred to City Manager Mathewson who indicated that <br />some temporary relief might be afforded in the form of a graded and <br />graveled walkway. <br /> <br />Council, in resuming its regular order of business, heard. a report from <br />Ci ty Manager Ma. thewson concerning the College Street sewer line complaint <br />of Mr. P. S. Murphy, 112 College Street, this city, which report pointed <br />out, in add! tion to certain findings, certain recommendations by Public <br />Works Director Maury which, if effected, would undoubtedly alleviate the <br />condi tions of which Mr. Murphy has complained. <br /> <br />Under the signatures of a special committee composed of Robert Grant, <br />local City-County Health Department Sanitation Officer, Clay A. Easterly <br />(City Fire Marshal), James B. Jones, Jr. (City Building and Plumbing <br />Inspector), and L. J. Judkins (City Electrical Inspector), a report on local <br />unsafe housing conditions as recently found by the committee 'Was presented <br />by City Manager Mathewson. Addi tional comments on the report were made by <br />both City Manager Mathewson and Dr. W. P. Ja.ckson, the latter the Director <br />of the City-County Health Department, after which the Council expressed its <br />appreciation to those responsible for the report and, also, went on record <br />as empowering City Manager Mathewson to effect the recommendations of the <br />committee by first requesting voluntary cooperation from the property owners <br />involved and, should it become necessary, by compulsory compliance by such <br />property owners. <br /> <br />Ci ty Manager Mathewson next reported the. t the electronic speed-meter (known <br />as the "\/hammyn) has been placed in operation and from all appearances so <br />far that its use has already resulted in safer driving among the local <br />
