J68

TUESDAY

CC TOBER 7, 1958

City Manager Hirst presented various aspects as well as problems pertaining to

providing sewage collection and/or disposal service for the new Druid Hills

Elementary School being constructed on Indian Trail. CO'l.1LCilman Brown moved

that the City immediately put into motion necessary steps towards calling far

a sewer revenue bond referendum--similar to that offered the voters in

November of 1957--; however, the motion died for lack of a second. With

Councilman Brown abstaining because of personal interests in property involved,

CO'l.1LCil adopted the motion that negotiations immediately begin towards acquiring

the (proposed) site or property on which the proposed sewage disposal plant is

to be located or constructed, near Smith River, west of Forest Park Country Club

property.

Mr. W. K. Putney and other representatives of the Martinsville-Henry County

Tennis Association appeared before Council and requested that Council give consid-

eration to the constructing of two newall-weather tennis courts, possibly in

the City Park off East Church Street Extended. Council indicated that it will

give consideration to this request, meanwhile suggesting that City Mamger Hirst

develop cost figures for Council.

Council received, reviewed, and endorsed or approved the following 1959 salary

and expense requests (budgets) for the respective following constitutional

officers, authorizing an indication of its approval to be conveyed by letter

to the State Compensation Board:

OFFICE
City Treasurer
City Revenue Commissioner
City Sergeant
City Commonwealth's Attorney

TOTAL AMOUNI'S
$ 19,900.00
24, 140 .00
11,285.00
8,560.00
