<br />364 <br /> <br />THURSDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEHBER 25. 1958 <br /> <br />connnittee report was submitted and the opinion rendered, Council instructed the <br /> <br /> <br />City Manager to arrange a joint meeting of Council with the Board of Supervisors <br /> <br /> <br />for the purpose of working out mutually satisfactory details for the <br /> <br />installation of the parking meters. <br /> <br />After receiving from City Manager Hirst a report on the present conditions <br /> <br />of Smith lake and the "Poorhouse Farm" property, Council voted (two to one- <br /> <br /> <br />Mayor Shultz voting against the motion) that the City ~~nager be instructed to <br /> <br />have the timber on the "Poorhouse Farm" tract "cruised" and appraised and that <br /> <br /> <br />said timber be advertised for sale; that the City Manager be and is directed <br /> <br /> <br />to complete the draining of Smith Lake and have the dam cut so that the normal <br /> <br /> <br />flow of streams now feeding the lake will now through unimpeded; and that the <br /> <br /> <br />proposed sale of both the Smith lake property and the "Poorhouse Farm" property <br /> <br /> <br />be held in abeyance, pending the receipt and study of the complete planning <br /> <br /> <br />report being prepared for the City by City & Town Planning Associates, Chapel <br /> <br />Hill, North Carolina. Mayor Shultz requested that this matter--action on the <br /> <br /> <br />Smith lake and "Poorhouse Farm" properties--be placed on Council's next meeting's <br /> <br /> <br />agenda. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Hirst, Council voted to continue the City's <br /> <br /> <br />water meter testing and repairing program in keeping with the appropriation <br /> <br />allowed in the current year's budget. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst informed Council that information, in addition to that <br />previously brought to Council's attention, will soon be presented concerning <br />certain phases of the proposed sewerage system improvements program, particularly <br />that which could serve the new Druid Hills school at an estimated cost of <br />$45,088.00. <br />
